| TELE MEDECINE |
Telemedicine is the use of electronic
communication and information technologies to provide health care when distance
separates the medical professional from the patient.

In order to bring equity in
health care delivery all over the zone in terms of quality and accessibility, N
F Railway has embarked upon the ambitious project of Telemedicine. The project
is being implemented by Konkan Railway at an estimated cost of Rs 3.1 million
excluding the cost of civil construction and recurring cost of lease line,
broadband internet & equipment maintenance.
In Phase I of the project,
one Remote Centre each at Badarpur and Rangapara have been established and
connected to the Specialist Centre in N F Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon
through leased lines provided by BSNL. Each Remote centre is equipped with
digital ECG machine, scanner, high resolution CCD camera apart from the PC with
standard peripherals and telemedicine software where X-Ray images, ECG,
Pathology tests and camera images are transmitted online to respective
specialist at the specialist centre for reporting, diagnosis and
treatment.
Recently, in Phase II of the
project, N F Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon (Guwahati) have been connected
to S Railway Central Hospital, Perumbur (Chennai) through 2 Mbps RTCL leased
line link. This will be a great boon for significant number of patients of N F
Railway who have to go there regularly for treatment and follow up in the
specialty of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery.
